If Nobody Cares, Are You Still A "Celebrity"?

U.S. District Judge James Zagel denied Rod Blagojevich permission to leave the country to participate in a reality game show, "I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!"

This is great news for the state of Illinois. Finally, somebody said, "Enough is enough." Blagojevich is not a celebrity, he is an impeached governor charged with selling off a Senate seat. Blagojevich is a few steps lower than a used car salesmen (no offense to used car salesmen).

The term "celebrity", as defined by Wikipedia;

A celebrity is a widely-recognized or notable person who commands a high degree of public and media attention.

As I read on, I believe Blagojevich fits the following description better;

Those that seek out publicity for themselves are often called a media tart whereas those that use their private life as a vehicle for enhanced celebrity status, sometimes desperately, are referred to as a media whore.

In my mind, a "celebrity" is someone who has qualities that the public wishes to experience, i.e. a singer, an actor/actress, an intellect.

Blagojevich does not possess a single quality I wish to experience. He is not alone. Probably the best example in history would have to be Paris Hilton. Yet, she's always in the spotlight despite having any desirable qualities. The list of these type of "celebrities" is growing. I think we need a new word to describe them so as not to dilute the meaning for real "celebrities".

I like the last one best. I am amazed that this guy is free. I know innocent until proven guilty, but don't the tapes DO just that? It's completely mind boggling.

Most people who commit these crimes are always free on bond Tara. They don't just get tossed in jail.

Tapes are not always considered concrete evidence either. There are so many legal loopholes.

Blago is a clown. He should open a B&B with Drew Peterson.

i used to work with a guy who had pictures of "borderline celebrities" on his office wall.

they were, as he put it, "people famous for being famous".

he would write ridiculous letters to them saying what a big fan he was and asking for an autographed photo.

i was always struck by how odd it was to view them as a group in his little collection of smarmy images.

they seemed to be people who were just desperate for attention.

The sad part about this is the people that actually make these people famous by following them. Thanks to Reality TV we have a lot of these people in the world today.
The sad truth is that Blago was offered this show because he would bring it ratings. In today's world he doesn't need to be a singer, actor, etc.

I know that Scott but it doesn't make it any easier to swallow. What's the hold up? How long does he get to continue to make an ass of himself publicly? When is his trial? I wont be the slightest bit surprised if he walks.

Media Media Media
Why can't they ever just sit back and ignore these goofs.
They continue to keep them in our faces and what a sad thing for our and HIS children. Is nothing sacred anymore?
Perhaps they should take Blago to church and show him the confessional.
I'm really glad the judge told him he can't go and take part. We've seen too much of him already since he was arrested.

Tara this trial probably won't start until next year sometime.

I read today that NBC asked for his wife Patti to replace him.
